Photo Contest Rules
2013 Rules & Regulations
All entries must be photographs taken on Prince Edward Island. The contest is open to all residents of Canada and the United States age 18 years and older, except directors and employees of Tourism PEI and the Government of Prince Edward Island, and any of the sponsoring companies or affiliated companies. This includes their immediate families, cohabitants, agents or contractors. The contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. Tourism PEI reserves the right to cancel the contest or modify these rules at its discretion. Decisions of Tourism PEI will be final. No purchase is necessary. Any and all disputes will be resolved in the appropriate courts in the Province of Prince Edward Island and subject to the laws of the Province. Should there be a conflict between the laws of Prince Edward Island and any other laws, the conflict will be resolved in favour of the laws of the Province of Prince Edward Island. The Picture the Island Photo Contest is subject to all Federal, Provincial and Municipal laws. Winning entrants are required to answer a mathematical skill-testing question.
The Sponsor will use reasonable efforts to contact the Winners by email, but in the event the Sponsor cannot contact Winners within 2 business days from the time of judging, that Participant shall be deemed void.
Entries are to be digital photographs and submitted electronically as jpeg files to contest website. Content alteration of digital files is not acceptable; including combining multiple photos. Cropping of photos is permitted, tonal or colour corrections are acceptable. Borders, frames, text or other graphic treatments are not permitted.
Finalists will be asked to submit a high-resolution file suitable for print reproduction. Tourism PEI judges reserve the right to disqualify contestants who are unable to submit, upon request, a high-resolution photograph of at least 300 dpi at 6 x 9 inches.
Scenics – beauty shots of landscapes, seascapes, fishing villages, lighthouses, etc
Shoreline – cliffs, beaches, etc
Nature – wildlife, birds and wildflowers in natural habitat
People – individuals of any age, capturing character and spirit and a litle fun!
Islandness – conveys a sense of Prince Edward Island
On Vacation – having fun on vacation, at a favourite attraction, festival, beach, dining, or activity
Humorous – fun photos that make you smile, or laugh out loud
Fan Favourite – Tell us which photo you think should win!
ENTRIES AND IDENTIFICATION
Photographs entered must not have been previously published. Individuals can only win once per category, but may win in multiple categories. Entrants must own all rights to the photographs submitted. As such, entrants hold Tourism PEI, the Government of Prince Edward Island and the contest sponsors harmless from any breach of copyright. Photographs that have won any other contests or have been published in a magazine or newspaper (except online) are not eligible. Photographs that violate or infringe upon another person's copyright are not eligible. For a photo in which a person is recognizable, a model release is required. Model releases are the responsibility of the entrant and must be presented in the event the photo is a winner. Photographs must have been shot within the past two years (since January 1, 2011).
Entries can be received online, by mail or in person. Limit of two entries per category per entrant. If an entry is received without a clearly designated category, or is in an inappropriate category, judges reserve the right to place the entry in the appropriate category. Tourism PEI holds the right to disqualify entries with inappropriate content. Entries will not be returned.
Winners' names and photographs will be published on www.tourismpei.com. A selection of winning entries will also be published in 2014 Island Guide. Tourism PEI reserves the non-exclusive right to publish any entry and/or use any entry in promotional and advertising materials. Photos published will be credited to the photographer where possible. Winners may be asked to participate in other Tourism PEI marketing initiatives related to promoting PEI as a destination.
All entries uploaded through the contest website (www.tourismpei.com/photocontest) must be received prior to 4:00 pm AST, September 30, 2013.
The winners will be selected by a panel of judges in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island. Winners will be notified by email ONLY by 4:00 pm AST, October 30, 2013. Decision of the judges is final.
Tourism PEI or the Government of Prince Edward Island cannot be held responsible for entries that are lost, damaged, or delayed during transportation. Tourism PEI or the Government of Prince Edward Island is not responsible for any failure of the website during this contest. Nor is it responsible for any problems or technical malfunctions of computer online systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software or any email, online or internet entry lost due to technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to an entrant’s or any other person’s computer or property related to or resulting from playing or downloading any material in the promotion.
With regard to any photograph submitted to this contest, the entrant, or the owner of copyright in the photograph, retains copyright. By uploading or submitting any photograph to this contest, the entrant grants (or warrant that the owner of such materials expressly grants) Tourism PEI a royalty-free, world-wide, perpetual, non-exclusive license to display, distribute, reproduce, and create derivative works of the entries, in whole or in part, in any media now existing or subsequently developed, for any Tourism PEI purpose, including, but not limited to advertising and promotional materials, its website, exhibition, and commercial products, including but not limited to Tourism PEI publications. Tourism PEI will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with such uses. Winning entrants are required to sign a release containing the above conditions.
