Grammie's Apple Upside Down Cake
1/3 Cup Margarine
1 Cup White Sugar
1 Cup Milk
2 Cups Flour
1 Teaspoon Soda
½ Teaspoon Salt
½ Teaspoon Nutmeg 2 Teaspoons Cream of Tartar
10 - 12 Apples
Beat margarine and add sugar. Beat well. Add eggs one at a time and beat each time. Add milk and mix well, then add dry ingredients.
Peel and slice apples evenly into a 9 x 13 pan. Add sugar and sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon each of cinnamon and nutmeg. Apples should be thinly sliced for even cooking.
Spread batter on top of apples.
Bake in 350 F. oven for 1 hour. While still warm, scoop out into desert dishes and serve with ice cream or whipping cream.
