Ginger Cookies

An old-fashioned recipe but still popular at our house

3/4 Cup Shorting
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar (I use dark)
1 Egg
1/3 Cup Molasses
2 1/2 Cups Flour
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
1 Teaspoon Ginger
1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon
1/4 Teaspoon Cloves

Cream shorting and sugar. Beat in egg and molasses. Mix in flour, spices, etc. Form into balls, dip top in coarse white sugar and slightly flatten.
Bake at 375 F. for 12 minutes.
