Black Midnight Cake

1/2 Cup Shorting
1 1/4 Cups Sugar
2 Eggs
1/2 Cup Cocoa
1 Cup Hot Water
1 1/2 Cups Sifted Cake Flour
1/2 Teaspoon salt
1 Teaspoon Soda
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
1 Teaspoon Vanilla

Mix in this order. Cream shortening, add sugar gradually and cream until fluffy. Blend in well beaten eggs. Combine cocoa and hot water. Stir to dissolve completely. Sift flour, salt, soda and baking powder together and add to creamed mixture alternately with hot water and cocoa mixture. Blend in vanilla.
Pour into a greased lined 8 inch pan which is 2 1/2 inches deep. Bake 50 - 55 minutes in a moderate 350 F oven. When cool, spread with 7 minute icing.
