1 cup butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 cups flour
1 cup finely chopped walnuts
1/4 cup white corn syrup
1/4 tsp. maple flavouring
candied red and green cherries
Cream butter and sugar until fluffy in large bowl. Beat in egg and vanilla and sift in flour to make a soft dough. Measure out 1/4 cup dough and mix with walnuts, corn syrup and maple flavouring in small bowl.
Fit star plate on cookie press. Fill with remaining dough. Press out into 4-inch lengths on ungreased cookie pan. Join end of each to form a circle. Fill centre of each circle with small amount (1/2 to 1 tsp.) of syrup nut mixture. Decorate with tiny bows of cut red and green cherries.
Bake at 350 F until golden. Remove to wire rack to cool. Store with waxed paper between layers. Makes 5 dozen.
