Boiled Fruit Cake

1 cup shortening
1 lb. seedless raisins
2 cups white sugar
2 cups boiling water
1 8­oz. pkg. mixed fruit
2 eggs, well­beaten
3 cups flour
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. each ginger and cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves

Boil the 1st five ingredients for 5 minutes. Cool completely. Add the remaining ingredients. Bake in a tube pan or 2 loaf pans at 325 F for 11/2 hours. If you wish, you can add more fruit. I always do.
