These are cookies I have made over the years for all season. The
children took lots of these to school, and my mom made them for
us when we were in school.
1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. salt
6 tsp. baking powder
1/2 cup sweet milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Cream the shortening and sugar, mix in eggs and vanilla.
Add milk and dry ingredients, alternately. Roll to 1/8 inch thick,
cut into holiday shapes and bake at 325 F for 10 minutes.
Ice in holiday colors. These can also be double cookies using
filling such as jam or cooked raisins.
