Gumdrop Delights

1 beaten egg
3/4 cup sugar, white or brown, firmly packed
1/2 cup butter
1 cup dates, well chopped
1/4 cup walnuts
1/4 cup chopped gumdrops and 1/4 cup maraschino cherries, cut up
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cups Rice Krispies
1 cup desiccated coconut

Place the beaten egg, sugar and butter in frying pan set at 175 F. Stir until butter melts. Add dates. Raise heat to 225 F, cook 5 minutes or until dates are well­blended. Add nuts, vanilla, gumdrops and cherries. Turn heat off. Add Rice Krispies. Stir and cool. Roll into 1­inch size balls. Roll in coconut. These are delicious and are nice and festive for Christmas. You may also want to use colored coconut.
