1 cup raisins
2/3 cup walnuts
1 3/4 cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup applesauce

Preheat oven to 325 F. Toss raisins and walnuts with 1/2 cup of flour. Set aside. Mix rest of flour with next six dry ingredients. Mix well. Cream shortening, brown sugar and eggs. Add dry ingredients, alternately with applesauce. Stir in raisin mixture well. Spread batter in two greased loaf pans. Bake at 325 F. for 45-55 minutes. Cool 10 minutes. Remove from pans. Cool completely. Cut cakes in half horizontally. Icing in the middle and over top and sides.


Icing:
1/4 cup shortening
2 cups icing sugar
milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix Well.
