Christmas Cherry Loaf

1 6 oz jar red cherries
1 beaten egg
1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
2 cups flour
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup melted butter
1/4 tsp. salt
milk

Drain the cherries, saving the juice. Cut cherries in half. Add enough milk to cherry juice to make one cup. Combine sugar, butter , egg and milk - juice mixture. Beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients and stir only until mixed. Add nuts. Fold in cherries last. Bake in 350 F. oven for 1 hour. Submitted by Gail Feehan, Cornwall, P.E.I.
