Christmas War Cake

2 cups brown sugar
3/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup molasses
2 cups hot water
1 lb. raisins

Boil for 3 minutes. When cool add:

4 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. allspice
1/2 cup chopped mixed fruit, red and green cherries
