1/2 cup butter or margarine 1/2 cup white sugar 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 egg 1/2 tsp soda 1/4 tsp salt 1 3/4 cup white flour 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts 1/2 tsp vanilla Cream butter and sugars. Add beaten egg. Beat together until light. Sift flour, soda and salt. Add to the creamed mixture. Mix in the vanilla and walnuts. Divide into two parts. Shape into a roll. Wrap in foil or clear wrap. Put in fridge for the night. Slice fairly thin. Bake in a hot oven, then put cookies on a rack to cool. This recipe is good using 1/2 cup finely chopped red and green cherries instead of walnuts.
