1 cup finely chopped dates
1/2 cup chopped walnuts, your choice
2/3 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs, well beaten
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Grease 9 inch square cake pan. Preheat oven 350 F.
Prepare dates and nuts.
Sift flour, baking powder, salt and sugar together.
Mix in dates and nuts.
Combine well beaten eggs and vanilla, add to flour mixture and combine thoroughly.
Spread batter in pan. Bake for about 25-30 minutes - squares will be soft and moist to touch.
When you take the squares out of oven, immediately cut into 36 pieces. Roll each piece in icing sugar or white sugar (I like the icing sugar).
Put in tightly covered tin.
