Gumdrop Coconut Cookies

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1/3 cup shortening or margarine 1 cup brown sugar (lightly packed) 1 egg 1/2 tsp. vanilla 1/2 cup cut up and floured gumdrops (red and green for holidays) 1/2 cup coconut Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Cream shortening, blend in brown sugar. Add egg and beat it in well, mix in vanilla. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture. Mix in gumdrops and coconut. Shape dough into small balls land flatten slightly. Bake in preheated oven (350 F.) for approximately 10 minutes. Cool on wire racks. Freeze well for Christmas.
