Danish Apple Bars

Base: 2 1/2 cups flour 1 tsp. salt 1 egg, separated 1 cup margarine Water Combine flour and salt. Cut in margarine. Beat egg yolk in a cup and add cold water to make 2/3 cup. Stir into flour mixture until a ball forms. Cut in 1/2 and roll one piece to fit a greased 9 x 13 pan and up the sides. Filling: 1 cup Corn Flakes 1 can apples (for pies) 1/4 cup white sugar 1 tbsp. cinnamon Cover dough with Corn Flakes. Layer sliced apples over and sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Roll out second half of dough and lay over filling. Pinch edges together. Beat egg whites until foamy, brush on top. Score the dough on top. Bake 375 oven for 40 minutes. Glaze: 1/2 cup icing sugar 1 tbsp. milk 1/2 tsp. almond extract Drizzle on top while warm (not hot). Submitted by Minnie Campbell, Fairfield, R.R. 2 Souris, P.E.I.
