The Insider's Guide to Touring the Island
Visit as many touring regions as you have time for. Islanders' favourite pastime is to "go for a drive," and every local can tell you about at least one special road. Each area has its unique features and you will make your own discoveries as you venture off the beaten path. The three scenic routes, North Cape Coastal Drive, Central Coastal Drive and Points East Coastal Drive, will lead you on a path around the Island's coastline.
For a real touring project, take part in our "Tour the Island Contest" where visitors can win great prizes by seeing the Island from one end to the other. Contestants can opt to participate in one of the following three ways. Take part in the "Tip-to-Tip Certificate Program" where those who collect a certificate at one end of the Island can collect a ribbon at the other, to verify that they have made the complete journey from North Cape to East Point! Or heritage buffs can choose to take advantage of the Community Museums Passport Program – have the passport stamped at at least seven member museums to be entered in the contest. In a third contest entry option, travellers can visit at least four of seven lighthouses and receive a Lighthouse Lover's Certificate. Check with our Visitor Information Centres for details on the contest, ballots, touring maps and passports. The contest runs from mid-June to mid-October; winners will be awarded attractive PEI apparel.
