Distance: 68 kilometres ( 42 miles )
This is an easy to moderate all-day ride. It starts in downtown Charlottetown, following Confederation Trail out of the city and through pleasant countryside to the small village of Mt. Stewart. Along the way, anyone with an interest in gardening will want to stop at Veseys Seeds, a famous seed company, to visit their trial gardens and check out their retail store. On to Mt. Stewart and back to Charlottetown, this loop follows quiet paved roads with lovely views of rivers and farms.
If you would like to cycle for two or three days, you can continue beyond Mt. Stewart on Confederation Trail and connect with the St. Peters Route, featuring some of the best beaches on the Island. Then you can follow the remainder of this loop on your way back to downtown Charlottetown.
There are more options for lodging in downtown Charlottetown than we could begin to describe — hotels, motels, inns, and B&Bs in all price categories.
There are countless restaurants and cafés in Charlottetown, but choices are slimmer along the route.
The terrain on this ride is generally easy. From Charlottetown to Mt. Stewart on Confederation Trail there are no hills at all. Most of the way after Mount Stewart, there is enough variation in the terrain to produce gorgeous scenery, but only one or two hills that demand a moderate workout.
