All the Island's a stage!

Well, maybe not all of it, but if you love live theatre in any of its many forms, prepare to be enthralled. Our varied venues for the performing arts run the spectrum, from world-famous blockbuster to best-kept-secret status, and everything in between. If it’s musical theatre you’re after, Anne of Green Gables – The Musical™ will have you singing and dancing for days.

This year The Charlottetown Festival also includes a world-premiere of Longfellow’s Evangeline in their line up. But the Confederation Centre of the Arts is also home to a wide range of shows, including concerts, dance recitals, drama, and comedy. The nearby Cabaret-style theatre The Mack provides top-notch entertainment in a more intimate setting. Also look for Anne & Gilbert–the Musical, in its 6th year, now playing in Charlottetown. Want to be close enough to hear the actors breathing? Visit the Victoria Playhouse in Victoria-by-the-Sea, Montgomery Theatre in Rustico, St. Peters Courthouse Theatre in St. Peters Bay, The Harbourfront Theatre in Summerside and Kings Playhouse in Georgetown. So maybe we weren’t exaggerating: all the Island is a stage.

The word “theatre” means different things to different people. For some, it has to include a play, presented in three acts. Others favour a tap-dancing spectacle, with a live orchestra, and performers belting out memorable tunes. Comedy? Stories about modern life? The classics? Whatever your preference, it’s all here. Enjoy the show!
