Over the holidays when you don't want another turkey sandwich, this colourful soup is a nice change.

11/2 cups chopped beef
1 cup onion
1/2 cup turnip
1 cup potato
1 cup carrots
1 cup celery
1 cup chopped cabbage
1 15­oz. can tomatoes
1/2 cup rice or macaroni
11/2 qts. water
1 bay leaf
Thyme, salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce to taste

Brown beef and onion. Add all ingredients except macaroni. Cook slowly until tender. Add macaroni 20 minutes before serving.
