3/4 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
2 1/4 cups flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. white sugar
3 dozen red cinnamon candies
Cream together shortening and brown sugar until fluffy. Add egg and molasses, blend well.
Sift together next six ingredients. Stir into creamed mixture.
Form balls using 1 tsp. dough. Roll in white sugar and place about 2 inches apart on a greased baking sheet.
Bake approximately 10 minutes or until golden brown at 350 F. When removed from oven, place a red cinnamon candy on each cookie.
