Three nights of ‘classic rock’ concerts will be held at Confederation Landing Park on the Charlottetown Waterfront. “We have three headline artists who will put on great shows at the waterfront and we are very pleased to be working with the team at Tourism Charlottetown and with the City of Charlottetown”, says Jeff Squires of Cavendish Beach Music Festival.
On Thursday, June 30 Canada’s legendary band, The Tragically Hip will take the stage. Critically acclaimed for over two decades, The Tragically Hip have been at the heart of the Canadian music scene for evoking a strong emotional connection between their music and their fans that remains unrivaled in this country. Known for their powerful, energetic live performance, spend an evening with the band as they kick off the festival at Confederation Landing Park.
On Friday, July 1, double platinum selling artist Eddie Money will perform. After the release of his self-titled debut album in 1977, fans immediately fell in love with Money’s sound, and the album, which went double platinum, featured hits like “Baby Hold On” and “Two Tickets to Paradise.” Money followed up with a stream of Top 40 hits, as well as some of the era’s most creative videos for songs like “Think I’m in Love” and “Shakin.” In 1986, Money released Can’t Hold Back, which featured the classic, Grammy-Nominated duet with Ronnie Spector, “Take Me Home Tonight.” The song reached number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album went platinum and also featured the hit “I Wanna Go Back.”
On Saturday July 2 Charlottetown presents none other than Meat Loaf. His legendary 1977 album Bat Out Of Hell with its staggering operatic sound and impassioned vocals, has sold more than 43 million albums worldwide - still one of the biggest-selling records ever. Meat Loaf's reputation as one of music's greatest artists was underlined by such masterpieces as Dead Ringer (1981), Bad Attitude (1984) and the Bat Out Of Hell sequels Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell (1993) and Bat Out Of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose (2006). Now, more than 30 years after he exploded onto the world stage, Meat Loaf is back with a new record, Hang Cool Teddy Bear (a title taken from a line in the classic Russ Meyer trash movie Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls). From opener Peace On Earth to closer Elvis In Vegas, its 13 tracks drag the classic Meat Loaf sound kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
"I wanted it big, I wanted it dramatic, I wanted a rock record," says Meat Loaf. "Yes, it sounds like a Meat Loaf record. But it sounds different too - it sounds new, it sounds fresh. It speaks to you in a different way."
Opening for Meat Loaf will be the pride of PEI - Haywire. Celebrating 30 years together with chart toppers such as "Bad Bad Boy", "Standin in Line" and "Dance Desire" the Island sensations were recently honoured with the 2011 ECMA Lifetime Achievement Award. Hot on the heels of numerous accolades, the rockers are back in the studio working on their new 30th anniversary album.
