The winner of the PEI ADAPT Council’s “Taste Our Island” Award for 2011 is Papa Joe’s, one of Prince Edward Island’s most popular eateries. Papa Joe’s is operated by Barb, Jo-Anne, and John Jabbour, who were thrilled with the recognition of their good food and their 40-year commitment to buying local. Their father Joe Jabbour actually pedaled the countryside when he first began, and established strong relationships with Island producers that have lasted throughout the years. Inside the doors of this family style operation is a relaxed atmosphere coupled with delightful food and drink, and the mastery of Island-born chef, Irwin MacKinnon (pictured here with Barb). Irwin is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of Canada and has worked and traveled extensively in Europe, Asia and the US. Papa Joe’s menu changes with the availability of the seasons, but the family’s ongoing passion for freshness, beautifully seasoned seafood, meats, and some of the tastiest comfort cuisine, remains constant. Papa Joe’s restaurant is located at 345 University Avenue in Charlottetown.
