We are thinking of visiting PEI the first week of June. Will shops be open or will many things be closed since it's not peak tourist season? Will it be too cold for a couple of warm weather Texans to walk the beaches?

Hi Cheri!

June is a great option for visitors.  The average temperatures can range from 10°C (49°F) to 19°C (67°F), perfect for exploring our many trails and beaches and just for generally being outside.  All of the fields and trees are becoming their beautiful bright green, the lupins are beginning to bloom and the season is just so full of promise for the summer ahead.  June is very popular with visitors, but July and August are typically the busiest so you should have fewer crowds in June than you would in the middle of the summer.

Major attractions such as the Green Gables Heritage Place and other Anne attractions open in May. Other attractions, such as amusement parks, tend to wait until late June when the schools are finishing up for the year to open.  If you visit our website, attractions do have their opening dates listed and you can also order a Vacation Planning Package to be mailed to you which will give you lists of what to see and do with their dates of operation.

We are known as a "Foodie" island, so you'll have no issues finding fantastic places to eat.  Lobster will be in season - I highly recommend having it while you are here.

We look forward to welcoming you to PEI!
