Centre for Climate Change
St Peter's PEI will be home to the new Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation - opening in the fall of 2021. The 39,000-square-foot facility will function as a living laboratory thanks to its nearby wetlands, forests and coastal habitat that are affected by climate change. A short distance from Greenwich in the PEI National Park. It is also being sustainably designed and will be Net Zero ready. Along with the university's climate change and adaptation program, the facility will house research centres and the UPEI Climate Lab. In addition, the facility will have a 21-room residence for senior students and visiting faculty and a port for UPEI's fleet of drones. The Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation will transform rural Prince Edward Island and set the standard for climate change education across our communities, Canada, and the globe. The centre will provide skills to help mitigate and adapt to climate change, as well as drive innovation in green technology. As Islanders, we are deeply connected to our land, water, air and communities. There is tremendous opportunity to address the challenges of climate change by approaching it differently, collaboratively. While students are off for summers, plans are underway to offer seminars, learning and research opportunities and short stays for interested locals and visitors.
