Tour the setting for the novel written in 1908 by Lucy Maud Montgomery, “Anne of Green Gables”. Green Gables Heritage Place is famous around the world as the inspiration for the setting in Lucy Maud Montgomery's classic tale of fiction, Anne of Green Gables. Designated in 2004, Lucy Maud Montgomery's Cavendish National Historic Site includes the Site of Lucy Maud Montgomery's Cavendish Home and Green Gables Heritage Place.
The Campbell home, that L.M. Montgomery called the "wonder castle of my childhood", was built in 1872 by her Uncle John and Aunt Annie Campbell. The first Campbells settled here in 1776 and it is still in the Campbell family after over two hundred and thirty years. Here, L.M. Montgomery, author of the world famous novel Anne of Green Gables was inspired to write many novels and it is the setting for Anne's Lake of Shining Waters.
Marvel at the rugged, red sandstone cliff’s that run along the Islands’ North Shore. Build a seaside palace, sand sculpting programs take place at the beaches throughout the park. Cruise the Gulf Shore Parkway on a Coastal Cruiser. Rent one of these fun multi-person bikes and pedal your way through some of the prettiest scenery on PEI. Hike the trails, take in the panoramic views of the dunes and sing along with colourful characters at an evening campfire where you will hear stories of the past and present.
