North Rustico
Map
The village of North Rustico, located in Queens County, was incorporated in 1954 and has a population of 637. Bordering on the Prince Edward Island National Park, North Rustico has all the necessary services, but more than that, the harbour is the classic example of an active Island fishing port. In May and June the lobster fishers are bringing in their yummy catch and from July on, the same fishers invite visitors out for deep-sea fishing tours - an unforgettable fresh-air family experience.
While in North Rustico, be sure park your car and take a walk on the seaside boardwalk that takes you from the village centre to the Fisheries Museum and marina. Here you will enter a scale model of an old-time fishing village and learn about the people, their boats, and the fish that are traditionally caught in the Gulf-Shore waters. This is a working wharf, so after your visit to the museum, take a stroll along the harbour, visiting shops, watching the ships come and go, and getting a close-up view of the lighthouse. You will end up at Prince Edward Island National Park, where you can sit on the sandy beach and watch the tide come and go. On your return walk you may wish to cap your day off with a delicious “catch-of-the-day” at one of the local restaurants.
North Rustico is part of the Central Coastal Drive and is located in the Anne’s Land touring region.
