Did You Know? The Oldest Person Born in Prince Edward Island

Portrait of Mary Josephine Arsenault Ray on vintage wallpaper looking background

Mary Josephine (Arsenault) Ray was born in Bloomfield on May 17, 1895, the second youngest of seven children. After living in three centuries, she died on March 7, 2010, in her 115th year in New Hampshire.

At three years-old, Mary Jo moved with her family to Maine. Both of her parents died during her childhood. At 15, she began work as a housekeeper and store clerk. She married Walter Howard Ray and they had two sons.

She credited her long life to God and drinking milk and a post-dinner glass of wine each day. At the time of her death, she was the oldest person living in the USA and the second-oldest person in the world.
