About this Experience

This 90-minute experience is a rare opportunity to visit and learn about one of Canada’s Marine Protected areas.

Smell the salt air and feel the sand beneath your feet as you discover the natural and human history of the area and how interactions between different groups and the environment have shaped both the landscape and those who have lived in this place over the past thousand years. Learn about the threats to the giant Irish moss that only grows in this lagoon and the efforts to protect it. Find out why the famous “Singing Sands” sing. Learn about the Mi’kmaq, Celtic and French folklore related to the shore. Get a hands-on experience in conservation by pulling a Green Crab trap and learn about the impact of this and other invasive species on delicate ecosystems. Enjoy the taste of freshly churned ice cream that you will make in the cannery and learn about the mossing industry and the important role that Carrageenan plays in our lives. Collect a souvenir to take home as a memory of your experience.
