About
Andrew Macphail (1864-1938) was a teacher, medical doctor, editor, writer and soldier in WW1. One of his books “The Master’s Wife” tells the story of his strict Scottish upbringing in this historic farmhouse. At the Macphail Homestead, you can eat lunch or have tea in the Veranda Cafe, take a guided tour of the house, walk the forest and stream, visit the Forestry Project and see our homestead garden which supplies the café with vegetables. Some of the café favourites are potato soup, fish-cakes and beans, and bread pudding with whisky sauce. Check our website for events, lectures or workshops.
