A Guide to E-biking in PEI

E-bikes are becoming popular in Prince Edward Island among every age group and for good reason. Although there is a misconception that PEI is flat, once you spend time on a bicycle here, you'll soon think differently. An e-bike is the perfect solution for a little boost over steep hills and to take your sightseeing adventure a bit further.
Trails and Active Transportation Routes
Here are the TOP 5 cycling trails and active transportation routes:
- Confederation Trail from Tignish to Elmira
- PEI National Park: Gulf Shore Way from North Rustico Beach to Cavendish and Gulf Shore Way from Brackley Beach to Dalvay
- St Peters: Greenwich Road (Route #16) into the Greenwich, PEI National Park
- City of Charlottetown: St. Peters Road or Brackley Point Road to Stratford [PDF]

Two-wheeler safety
Be familiar with and follow all requirements to operate an e-bike in Prince Edward Island and obey all rules of the road for safe cycling, including the following:
- share active transportation pathways with pedestrians and other cyclists;
- ride in single file on the extreme right side of the road, where possible (do not weave);
- use the designated bike lane, when present;
- be visible at all times of day;
- use hand signals to turn right and left and to stop;
- all ages must wear a proper fitting helmet with chin strap fastened - it's the law!

Charging stations and e-bike rentals are available from these communities: Souris, Montague, Georgetown, Cardigan and Wood Islands. Each location has easy access to the Confederation Trail and/or a community biking trail.
