Sally's Beach
Here at Sally’s Beach Provincial Park in Spry Point, wander along the coastal trails. The first is a pleasant 0.8 km walk around the point and back. Where the lower trail ends, the upper trail starts for an enjoyable 3.2 km walk across the beach and around the property. Look for interpretive markers to guide you. Along the way, you may also spot the Peace Pole erected at the park in memory of the late Jane Dunphy, a former resident of Annandale.
The Annandale Range Lights
Built in 1898, the Annandale Range Lights mark the entrance to the Boughton River from the Northumberland Strait. The original front range light was later replaced by the current structure, which stands 5.2 metres (17 feet) tall. The rear range, constructed in 1901, is Prince Edward Island’s tallest lighthouse at 19.8 metres (65 feet).
No longer in use, the rear range light faced an uncertain future as eroding cliffs threatened its stability. In 2020, it was carefully moved inland to its current location. Today, the former lighthouse lives on as the Lighthouse Keeper’s Inn, a modern guest suite.
The Annandale Range Lights are part of a larger family of 40 range lights (20 pairs) found around Prince Edward Island. Each pair consists of a shorter front range and a taller rear range, together marking the safe entrance to a harbour. By lining up the two lights, using the vertical red stripe as a visual guide, boat captains can navigate safely into harbours and waterways along the Island’s coast.
