Strathgartney Prince Edward Island

Strathgartney comes from the Scots Gaelic meaning 'a valley in the hills.' Such is an apt name for Prince Edward Island's first provincial park, nestled in the central hills of the province since its establishment on July 1, 1959. Today, visitors come for the network of hiking trails that wind beneath a leafy canopy, offering a quiet retreat. The main trail, named Ji'ka'we'katikl (pronounced - Jih Ga Way Ga Dig), connects to Bonshaw Hills Provincial Park.

Petroglyphs

The West River area is home to the Island's only known petroglyphs. This remarkable historic site has several sandstones carved with the initials of early European settlers dating to 1880. The exact location is kept from public record to protect the carvings from decay, preserving this rare piece of Island history for generations to come.
