This Summer Will Be Different

Prince Edward Island has a long and storied history of inspiring artists. Whether from the pages of L.M. Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables or Alex Colville’s iconic painting, To Prince Edward Island, this Island has a unique ability to spark creativity.

In 2024, bestselling Canadian author Carley Fortune added to this long line of Island-inspired artistry with her novel This Summer Will Be Different. A story of love, friendship and belonging, in which Fortune channels the whimsy and honesty of Montgomery through her vibrant descriptions of PEI’s unique landscape and culture.

Netflix is adapting This Summer Will Be Different into a ten-episode series. The show is currently in production, with filming scheduled on Prince Edward Island for summer 2026. Carley serves as an executive producer on the project.

The Benches

The first bench installations are at Basin Head Provincial Park and Point Prim Lighthouse, two iconic settings where visitors can pause and experience some of the landscapes that brought This Summer Will Be Different to life.

More than places to sit, the installations serve as story markers, encouraging visitors to linger a little longer and experience the Island through the eyes of the novel's beloved characters, Lucy, Felix & Bridget.
