What do you get when you cross St. Patrick’s Day with maple syrup season on PEI? A lucky charm of a cocktail, said to be a favourite of local leprechauns.

Yield: 1 serving

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. Deep Roots Distillery Maple Liqueur
  • 1 oz. of Irish Cream
  • 1 oz. of whole milk (or cream if you need the extra calories)
  • Ice cubes
  • Cocoa powder and chocolate shavings
  • Granulated maple sugar

Directions

  1. Rim a martini glass with granulated maple sugar. 
  2. Combine the Maple Liqueur, Irish Cream, whole milk and a handful of ice cubes in a cocktail shaker. Shake for 10 seconds.
  3. Strain into your prepared martini glass and garnish with cocoa powder and some chocolate shavings.

Mocktail version

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. maple syrup
  • 1 oz. Irish cream–style coffee creamer (vanilla, caramel, or chocolate flavour works great) 
  • 1 oz. whole milk (or cream for extra richness) 
  • Ice cubes 
  • Granulated maple sugar (for rimming the glass) 
  • Cocoa powder and chocolate shavings (for garnish)
     

Directions

  1. Wet the rim of a martini glass lightly (a bit of milk or maple syrup works), then dip it in granulated maple sugar. 
  2. Add maple syrup, Irish cream-style creamer, whole milk and ice cubes to a cocktail shaker. Shake for 10 seconds.
  3. Strain into your prepared martini glass and garnish with cocoa powder and some chocolate shavings.
