My wife and I are very interested in tours of oyster farms and we are tempted to sign up for several. Are they different enough from each other, or is that foolish and we'll be bored?

Hello Colin,
Thank you for reaching out to Ask an Islander. There are a couple of oyster farms that offer tours, Raspberry Point Oysters has an Oyster Shuck & Learn Experience that you can book. You'll learn about the fascinating world of oyster farming, from the growth and harvesting process to the art of shucking. You’ll taste the freshest oysters from the ocean and learn about their distinctive flavours.
You could sign up for an oyster experience with Tong and Shuck. Here you will learn about the growth and life cycle of PEI oysters and the proper size for harvest and how to shuck & feast on PEI fresh oysters.
Another experience that looks like a lot of fun is Oysters & Experts with PEI Tasting Tours! Here you will learn about the art and science of oyster farming at Brackley Bay Oyster Co. and taste fresh oysters right out of the bay. You'll get to take home a locally made shucking tool as a souvenir and continue to enjoy fresh oysters at home.
You can also visit Brackley Bay Oyster Co. on your own. They have a fresh seafood counter and they shuck fresh oysters daily. It's not a tour, but it is well worth a visit and a taste!
Valley Pearl Oysters in Tyne Valley have a restaurant above their processing facility. This is a fun place to visit and if they happen to be packing orders they may give you a quick tour!
I don't think you'll be bored if you book more than one experience. They are all in different regions of the Island, so you'll get to explore the island and the hosts are all unique and fun!
Happy shucking!
Valerie
