We will be staying in Darnley. Any suggestions for must see beaches, look-outs, restaurants etc? Thinking of driving the North cape to see the windmills and perhaps any sights to see from Darnley to North Cape would be great.
Hey John,
We’re glad to hear you’re coming to visit PEI. You’ve picked a great spot to stay since it is popular and has a lot of the same features as the top-rated locations on the Island (such as Cavendish) but doesn’t have quite as many people. So you’ll have more elbow room and everything won’t be quite as “touristy”.
Thunder Cove offers an amazing beach, probably my favorite beach on the Island. It’s nice and sandy (but unsupervised). Close by is Darnley Greens 9-hole golf course, which also offers paintball games (the Red Zone).
A few kilometres away in Malpeque, you’ll find Cabot Beach Provincial Park (featuring a nice beach), Malpeque Oyster Barn and Malpeque Hall ceilidhs, which offers great down-home music.
A hop, skip and a jump later, you’re in Kensington, where you’ll find several really good restaurants, including the Island Stone Pub and the terrific Family & Friends Restaurant.
The western end of the Island if referred to as North Cape Coastal Drive and offers a great variety of unique attractions and restaurants, as well as several beautiful golf courses. Everything from the Bottle Houses to the West Point Lighthouse & Museum, not to mention Beach Goats and the North Cape Wind Energy Interpretive Centre.
The middle of the province has lots of hills while the western end of the province has a number of tall cliffs, so you’ll have ample opportunity to see great scenery and take lots of pictures. PEI sunsets over the sea are spectacular.
I hope you have an amazing vacation!

Asked: I will be visiting Souris in early July 2024. I would love to take in a traditional lobster boil ( if that’s the correct wording , with the potatoes and corn and sea food ). Is there a local area known for offering this?
