We will be walking from the cruise terminal. What beach can we get to easily?

Good morning;

Thank you for reaching out to Ask an Islander. How exciting that you will be arriving to PEI by cruise ship! As I am not sure of your desires for a beach visit, I will give you several options, as follows:

Walk from Port Charlottetown along the waterfront boardwalk to Victoria Park (pictured below). There is a floating dock near the Kiwanis Dairy Bar where you can sit and enjoy the view of the harbour. If you walk to the end of the boardwalk and along Queen Elizabeth Drive, you will reach the Brighton Range Front Light and access to the water. This is not a beach where you can swim or walk; merely a public waterfront access point (38 mins from Port Charlottetown on foot).

Kinlock Beach (pictured below) is the closest beach for swimming or walking (at low tide). However, although just across the harbour, the walk is more than 1.5 hours. I would suggest renting an e-bike from Rising Tide on Queen Street. The staff can map out the safest cycling path for you. Alternatively, take a taxi or hire a Kari driver (PEI's version of UBER).

Finally, you could also hire a taxi or Kari (PEI's version of UBER) to go to the PEI National Park at Brackley Beach

Enjoy your time on Prince Edward Island.
