Where is best beach for seaglass?
Hello Lisa,
Thank you for reaching out to Ask an Islander. If you're looking for sea glass in Prince Edward Island, you're in luck. Sea glass can be found on beaches across the Island, and many visitors enjoy beachcombing as part of their PEI vacation.
In my experience, south shore beaches tend to be the best locations for finding sea glass, although it can also be found along north shore beaches. Going to the beach after a big storm is best. Keep in mind that beachcombing is not permitted within Prince Edward Island National Park. As part of the Park Promise, visitors are asked to leave nothing and take nothing, helping to protect the natural environment for future generations.
One of the most popular destinations for sea glass hunting is Souris Beach, located on PEI's eastern shore. The community has embraced its connection to sea glass and even hosts an annual celebration, the Mermaid Tears Sea Glass Festival, in July each year.
While you're in Souris, I also recommend visiting the Souris Historic Lighthouse. The lighthouse features an impressive display of locally collected sea glass and offers great insight into the area's maritime heritage.
Happy hunting, and I hope you discover some beautiful treasures along PEI's shores!
Warm regards,
Verna Lynne
