Hi there,In the month of August, how is the water in the north and south sides of PEI? Is it warm enough for swimming? Is the south side warmer?

Answer by:

Hello Vic,

Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander.

August is the warmest month for water temperatures around Prince Edward Island. Water temperatures average 18.2 degrees celcius.  The difference between south and north side are minimal. The water on the south side tends to be warmer because it is shallow water. Many say the beaches are busier in July, but you will certainly find swimmers and beach goers enjoying all the beaches on the Island even into the first week of September!

Happy swimming!
