I will be visiting Souris in early July 2024. I would love to take in a traditional lobster boil ( if that’s the correct wording , with the potatoes and corn and sea food ). Is there a local area known for offering this?

Good afternoon Trish,

Thank you for reaching out to Ask an Islander about feasting on lobster while on PEI.

PEI lobster suppers nourish more than the belly. It is a time to celebrate playing with our food, being present, sharing a yarn or two, and unashamedly reaching for more melted butter! Lobster suppers typically feature a lobster cooked in salted water (from the ocean). Then, the lobster is chilled and served with potato salad, cole slaw, soft rolls, and lots of melted butter. Here on PEI, the best dessert after a lobster supper is a toss up between strawberry shortcake and lemon meringue pie - another great debate! But why choose - have both!

I've got three great options for restaurants that feature seafood platters.

The first spot is Clam Diggers in Cardigan. Their menu is heavily seafood-focused with a seafood platter that features lobster, crab, mussels and shrimp. I would recommend ordering the steamed clams as an appetizer. Soft shelled clams are very seasonal so if you have the opportunity to enjoy them, do it!

Secondly, if you happen to be heading east towards Belfast, Point Prim Chowder House is a must stop. In addition to their seafood platter, they have amazing chowder, lobster rolls and steamer pots of assorted shellfish.

The third place I'm going to suggest has portions so generous that it will not fit on one platter. The New Glasgow Lobster Suppers offers freshly baked old- fashioned rolls, salads, steamed mussels, lobster (and other seafood options). They are also famous for mile-high lemon meringue pie. You will be so full that you might need help getting back to your vehicle. Ha! Ha!

I invite you to download or order our 2024 visitor’s guide. You can always stay in touch by signing up for the Tourism PEI newsletter which includes details on upcoming festivals and events and recipes too!

Have a wonderful summer vacation and thank you for choosing Prince Edward Island.
