Summerside: Family Vacation Ideas

Just a small sample of the many things to see and do in Summerside.

Spend a day exploring these family-friendly attractions that will entertain all ages. Many sites are close to one another so you could plan to walk or cycle from one place to another.

Start your time in Summerside with a history lesson. A walk along the tree-lined streets of the downtown core will reveal the splendid 19th century and early 20th century residential architecture and dramatic outdoor murals illustrate stories of the town's past. History buffs will enjoy the Lefurgey Cultural Centre, MacNaught History Centre and Archives, Wyatt Historic House Museum, Bishop's Machine Shop Museum and International Fox Museum. Ask for a copy of the self-guided walking tour brochure at any museum site.

Historical House, old fashioned clothing

Anne of Green Gables is famous for saying, “there’s nothing more delectable than ice cream” and in Summerside, Holman’s Ice Cream Parlour takes the prize for most delectable. Sample one of their daily, small batch flavours or a classic soda while enjoying the outdoor heritage gardens.

Summerside is the only place to glide along the waterfront boardwalk on a segway. Choose a 1 or 2-hour guided tour (for ages 14+). After a training session, segwaying will be as easy as riding a bike.

Youngsters will enjoy the soft play area and indoor multi-sport turf at Off the Wallz in Slemon Park.

Avonley Village, family, ice-cream

Budding potters will want to Play in Clay at Island Stoneware. Feel the joy that comes from working clay by hand and transforming it into a work of art to take home.

End your seaside adventure with a picnic at Spinnakers’ Landing or Green’s Shore Beach for some of the best views in town. The Best of Samuel’s PEI Picnic Basket comes highly recommended for its Made-in-PEI products.
