Can you eat the clams; found a few snorkeling?

Good morning;
The clams you found while snorkeling are probably hard-shelled bar clams. Yes, you can eat them, unless there is a posted notice indicating that the area is closed due to contamination or that harvesting is illegal.
Here is an article that outlines how to clean the live clams as a first step. Once cleaned, you can steam the clams in a pot with a small amount of water or place them on a grate over an outdoor fire. The clams will stay closed and steam in their own juices. When they open up, they are ready to eat. Bar clams are also a delicious addition to a seafood chowder.
Enjoy your time on Prince Edward Island.

Asked: I will be visiting Souris in early July 2024. I would love to take in a traditional lobster boil ( if that’s the correct wording , with the potatoes and corn and sea food ). Is there a local area known for offering this?
