If I take my car on the ferry to Caribou, Nova Scotia from PEI, do I have to pay if I drive back to PEI via the bridge?

Hello Therese,
Thank you for reaching out to Ask an Islander. If you come to PEI by Northumberland Ferries Ltd. on standby, you can travel for free from Caribou. Boarding is subject to availability based on vehicle type or height, not necessarily “first-come, first-served”. If you want to guarantee your spot on a certain crossing, you will have to make a reservation and therefore pay the fare to cross.
There is a toll to cross the Confederation Bridge, the toll booths are on the PEI side so you'll pay as you leave.
Kindly,
Valerie
