My wife and I are now retired and are looking to move to PEI and would like to know the least buggy area to settle in?

Good morning from Cornwall, Prince Edward Island.

Thank you for your inquiry to Ask an Islander. Great to hear that you are considering a move to the Island. To avoid common bugs like mosquitoes and house flies, it is important to consider proximity to marsh and wetlands as well as farms. Sounds like you may wish to consider living inland in a small town or one of our two cities - Charlottetown or Summerside.

Personally, I moved from central rural PEI where mosquitoes were not a problem (other than at dusk) but my proximity to a barn meant house flies were common. I now live in Cornwall where I enjoy proximity to Charlottetown, south shore beaches and rural life without the threat of mosquitoes and other bugs.

I hope this is helpful. When reviewing housing options on realtor.com, look for screened in porches, a sure sign of living in a buggy area. You may also want to consult choosepei.com.

All the best in your pursuit!
