Hello Alan,

Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander.

You are coming at a great time to dig clams! Many people like to dig in the summer, but I much rather have the cool of the fall weather for digging. Waiting for the tide to start rolling out and digging until I get my bucket full for a feed! Don't forget to purge the clams before cooking them!

I love seafood in the fall, you will find many wonderful seafood dishes in the restaurants. Lobster dinners, rolls and chowder are still pleantiful around the Island.

There are lots of accommodations available this time of year, you can check "where to stay" on the Tourism website or use VRBO or Air B&B. I would recommend a place near a red sand beach for clamming and so your little dog can enjoy a walk on the beach also.

Happy vacation planning and we look forward to your visit.
