Thanks for your questions, Jennifer. I have a couple of favorite beaches, and they are both near cottage rentals.

The Canoe Cove Beach is on the south shore not far from Charlottetown. It's a red sand beach and the water is lovely and warm in mid-August. You may have trouble finding a place to rent this summer - your best bet is to keep checking social media for a cancellation.

Another beach I love is Basin Head. It's a beautiful white sand beach in the eastern part of the Island. There are cottage rentals nearby, but if you can't find one, consider staying at ShantyStay. It has everything you need for a few nights and it's in Souris, only 15 km from the beach.

Want to try something different? While you're in Basin Head, try walking a segment of the 700 km Island Walk.

It goes around the circumference of PEI and there are two sections near Basin Head. I love the optional beach walk from North Lake to East Point. It's 9 km and it's beautiful.

Check the tide times - the beach walk is best at low tide. Also, pick a day when it's not too windy. A wind out of the north can be chilly even in August!

Enjoy your time in PEI!
