Greetings from Prince Edward Island!

Collecting sea glass has become a popular pastime on PEI in recent years. Indeed, there are beautiful pieces to be found in the sand, and it’s always exciting to spot one of these little treasures and claim it for yourself. Back in 2017, CBC PEI published an article about the best places to find sea glass in PEI that I found helpful in my quest to add to my own collection of sea glass.

Sea glass can be found at beaches all over the Island; it seems to be especially plentiful at Souris Beach, and friends have had luck at Lakeside Beach, Skunk House Beach and Canoe Cove Beach as well.

The best time to go searching for sea glass is after a storm, when the tide is out. You’ll sometimes find pieces among the pebbles (it helps to bring a small garden rake to scrape at the rocky/grassy areas).

A couple of things that might be of interest are the following:

•       Souris Lighthouse has an interesting interpretive display of sea glass (while you’re there, you can also climb to the top of the lighthouse).

•       The 13th Annual Mermaid Tears Sea Glass Festival will take place on July 30 & 31. If you’ll be here that weekend, be sure to check it out.

For beach walks, Blooming Point Beach, the beach near Tracadie Harbour (plan to enjoy a meal at Fin if you go there; there are also public bathrooms onsite), and St. Peter’s Harbour Beach are my favourites. Really though, you can’t go wrong at any beach in PEI… they are all spectacular!

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask us again.
