Can we see puffins on PEI? We are visiting with grandson in early August?

Thank you for reaching out and we are so glad to hear that you are coming to visit with your grandson!
The Atlantic puffin does not breed on Prince Edward Island, and there have been only a few sightings documented in PEI so far.
We do, however, have a growing population of bald eagles on PEI. At one point in the 1980s, wildlife biologists could find just one eagle's nest on the Island. Now it is estimated that there are close to 50, and as many as 500 birds. North Lake and Naufrage harbours are a great place to see these majestic birds.
The Piping Plover is a species at risk in PEI, they are a cute little shorebird who come here to nest. There are less than 25 breeding pairs that come here so PEI works very hard to protect them. Right now there are sections of the PEI National Park beaches that are closed off to protect this delicate bird and its nest.
