We will be travelling in May and hope to do some beachcombing. Which area (beach) would you recommend we spend most of our time?

Answer by:

Hello Judy,

Thank you for your question to Ask an Islander.

May will be a wonderful beachcombing month. The winter weather will have moved along and what those storms and winds blew up on the beaches will still be plentiful. I am partial to dead-end roads anywhere on the Island, leading to the shore. Some of my favourite roads include Pioneer Cemetary Road and Factory Road down near Flat River and Bell River in the Points East Coastal Drive area. These tend to have old sea glass and hard to find colours. But you have to have patience!!

Rice Point and Canoe Cove can be a great spot also, many of the cottages down there will be slowly opening in May, so should not have had too many people exploring.

Also watch for wharf roads into the bays and rivers.

I have found wonderful beachcombing on all of the beaches, so do not hesitate to explore!

Enjoy and maybe we shall see you on the beach!
