We will be staying in St. Margarets the second week of August and looking for where to buy/who to buy from, a bunch of crab (whatever is still in season), to boil up at the cottage! Any help would be appreciated! Thanks so much!

Hi Stephanie,

So glad to hear you are coming to Prince Edward Island. St. Margarets is a beautiful area and I used to camp in that area as a kid!

There is one seafood market option en route or in the general area, Julio’s Seafood Market in St Peter’s or MR Seafood while you are in Charlottetown!

The type of crabs found off our waters are not a typical viable catch for the fisherman here, however, you will find Belle River Crab meat, picked and frozen for a mean crab cake! You may also find snow crab legs( frozen). As far as what is available for a boil up, there are mussels and clams (hard and soft shell). Although the lobster season just closed July 1 but reopens in mid August, you may be able to buy some live lobsters as some places have holding tanks to hold for the summer season.

There are lots of places to dig your own clams! All you need is a low tide and a fork, shovel or plunger - just watch for other folks digging and watch for any posted signs.

A typical beach boil on PEI consists of lobster, mussels, clams, corn and potatoes.

A drive up to North Lake, not far from where you are staying, is always exciting as Bluefin Tuna Season(bluefin tuna capital) is in full swing and watching one of those giants being landed is pretty awesome to see!

Hope this helps and hope you enjoy your stay on our Island!

Cheers
